Michael Kim

Front ensemble

BIO

Michael graduated from Gateway High School in 2016 and was a front ensemble member in the marching band and indoor percussion ensemble. His musical journey continued at the University of Pittsburgh, where he played the marching baritone in the Pitt Band for two years and became a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band fraternity that celebrates outstanding musicians and promotes the advancement of college bands.

From 2016 to 2018, Michael performed as a marimba player with Nomad Indoor during its inaugural seasons. He later joined Matrix Open and earned a PIO silver medal at the 2019 WGI World Championships. The following year, Michael participated in what would have been his final indoor season with Matrix World, though it was cut short due to the global pandemic in 2020.

In 2023, Michael’s desire to give back to the music community led him back to Nomad, where he helped teach the front ensemble during the group's promotion into Open Class. Prior to this, he served as a front ensemble instructor for the Baldwin High School Marching Band and also volunteered at his alma mater, Gateway High School, actively participating in the growth and development of their marching band and indoor percussion programs.
